Nikhil Masters

I am a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Essex. My research is in behavioural economics with a focus on integrating interdisciplinary insights to better understand human decision-making.

I use a broad portfolio of empirical research methods, often combining experiments  (lab and field) with econometric modelling to investigate causal mechanisms.

My research interests are at the intersection of economics and psychology. Specific areas include the role of emotions in economic decisions, the relationship between pain perception and economic behaviour, and the Behavioural Economics of Music (BEM) - a new interdisciplinary research programme that merges economics and music psychology, aimed at improving our understanding of decision-making related to music.

I am on the 2024/25 job market. Link to my CV and job market paper.
